The Four Quartets: An excerpt

I said to my soul
Be still
And wait without hope
For it would be hope for the wrong thing;
Wait without love
For it would be love of the wrong thing;

There is yet faith,
but the faith
and love
and hope
are all in waiting

Thus, wait without thought
For you are not ready for thought
And in the darkness there shall be light,
And in the stillness, dancing…
Pointing to the agony of birth and death.

T.S. Eliot
